Searching for Child Care
LOCATE: Child Care, a program of Maryland Committee for Children (MCC), through a project with the Department of Defense (DoD), offers free, personalized assistance to active duty Army, Marine, Navy, Air Force and DoD civilians serving at Fort Meade, Walter Reed Medical Center, Fort Detrick and Aberdeen Proving Grounds/Edgewood.
Whether relocating to or already stationed at one of the four installations mentioned, LOCATE can help military families search for off-post child care. Based on the search criteria given by the parent, a child care specialist personally contacts child care providers to find openings and provides the families with information on how to identify quality child care.
Military Fee Assistance
Military families and DoD civilians might also be eligible to receive financial assistance to help offset the cost of off-post child care. Through the Military Fee Assistance program, a portion of the child care fees is paid to a qualifying child care provider or program.
In order to qualify for Military Fee Assistance, a child care center or family child care provider must be accredited or credentialed through a national organization that meets specific military requirements.
During the child care search, LOCATE specialists identify which programs qualify for the Military Fee Assistance. If the parent selects an eligible provider or program LOCATE: Child Care also provides technical assistance in completing the fee assistance application process.
If you are Active duty Army or an Army DoD Civilian and your children are already in care in a program or with a provider that meets the above criteria, call or email LOCATE: Child Care for information on how to apply for the Military Fee Assistance.
LOCATE is available Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Messages can be left during non-business hours and LOCATE staff will return the call as soon as possible.
