MCC Subcommittees

Membership on MCC's Public Policy Committee is open to anyone interested in working in the child care advocacy arena -- parents, providers, advocates, and community leaders. The only expectation is that each member shares in carrying out the responsibility of the Committee by serving on a subcommittee or assuming other tasks as needed.

The subcommittees of the Public Policy Committee are:

1) Compensation Subcommittee. Educates the public about the inadequate salaries of child care providers and develops policy options to address the problem.

2) Early Childhood Education Subcommittee. Advocates for developmentally appropriate early childhood programs and promotes collaboration between programs that serve young children.

3) Federal Legislation Subcommittee. Works with national organizations to develop, monitor, and organize support/opposition on federal child care legislation.

4) Health Subcommittee. Addresses health-related issues in child care settings, including lead poisoning, mental health, childhood immunizations, and bloodborne disease control.

5) Services to Children with Special Needs Subcommittee. Advocates for policies that promote and facilitate inclusion of children with disabilities in child care programs.

6) State Legislation and Regulations Subcommittee. Reviews regulations, budgetary and legislative initiatives proposed during the General Assembly session, and recommends positions to the Public Policy Committee.

In addition, as special concerns arise, ad hoc work groups of the Public Policy Committee may be formed. As an example, a Work Group on Informal Care met for a period of several months last year to make policy recommendations.
